Research "How To"

Genealogy Research Can Be A Challenging And Very Rewarding Hobby.

Many people around the world have found genealogy research to be a very rewarding hobby. Researching your family trees provides hours of challenge and immense satisfaction knowing that you have provided a valuable free service for your immediate family as well as generations to follow. The search for your ancestors can be very difficult at times, mainly because the only sources that we have are written in books, manuscripts, passenger lists, census records, birth and death records that are sealed away in libraries, church storerooms and government archives (to name but a few).

Origins Of Names – The Best Way To Uncover Them

This short article will help you find some of the best ways to uncover the origins of names within your family tree. We all realize that the surname that we have is only one of many within our pedigree. Usually, our last name is directly related to our father's father, perhaps for 30 - 50 generations. However, this is only one of the family name origins and meaning that we need to research. Naturally, we will have to follow the origin of the surnames of your mother's pedigree as well. In just 4 generations there can be at least 8 different last names to trace.

Where do I start to conduct a family tree search?

Starting my family tree search was very daunting at first. There were so many places that I might find out about my ancestors and their history. I searched through books, libraries, free genealogy websites and family members in my initial investigations. I started with the easiest sources included books, Family Bibles, scrapbooks that my family already had. I spoke with my parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles to uncover all of the treasures that they held.
