Research "How To"

Genealogy Videos – Access to Information Has Never Been So Easy

I have been researching tools, tips and techniques on the internet and was amazed to find all of the new and incredible tools that are at our fingertips. We all know about the free search tools that are available. And many of us subscribe to services that provide access to huge databases. But when you first start your family tree research it's difficult to know how and where to start.

Welcome to All-About-family-Trees

Hi and welcome to All-About-Family-Trees.com.

I'm very excited to finally bring this redesigned website online. The original website did not allow my visitors to interact.

My dream was to make the site, a one-stop resource for family historians, from beginners to seasoned genealogists. By making the site more interactive everyone will be able to learn and share their experiences while researching and documenting their family's heritage.

Conflicting Family Tree Information

Probably one of the hardest things to deal with is conflicting family tree information. How do I determine what's right? Sometimes there just isn't a correct answer…but we expect to find it.

New to Genealogy

Hi,
My name is George and I have just started to research my family tree. My family was in Ireland in the early 19th century. They came to Canada in the 1820's.

I don't know much more about the early days in Canada, except that they were hardworking farmers in central Ontario.

I'm looking forward to learning more about their lives and times and even tracing the family back to Ireland and their lives there.

I want to find my family's history, preferably without spending much money.

I'm new to genealogy. I want to uncover my family's ancestors and I don't have a lot of money to do my research. I do have a lot of time that I can devote to this project. Where do I start and what tools can I use?

How do I know what to search for when I'm trying to start building my family tree?

I want to start researching my family tree. However, I'm unsure of what questions I need to ask and how do I go about talking to my family about it?

I need help uncovering my family name history.

My family name seems to have changed in the early 1800's. Why did that happen and how do I find out why it changed?

Where do I start to search for the origins of my name?

My mom says that my father's family came from Ireland but I can't seem to find any evidence of that. How do I find the origin of my family name?

Where can I find information about death records?

I'm looking to find more information about my ancestors and specifically where I can find public death records.

How do I find my family genealogy?

My uncle just passed away and I wanted to find out a little more about my family genealogy.

What should I do?
