Researching my family tree is a challenging and rewarding hobby. The opportunity to uncover priceless history of my families is one I'm glad I didn't pass up. Genealogy is challenging because most of the ancestor information that is collected has been lost and forgotten. To uncover my family trees, my ancestry, provides a true link with the past and the heritage that my ancestors passed to me. To find the stories I searched for each detail of my ancestry from books, newspapers, archives and census reports from a variety of regions and other countries.
My family trees research started with relatives that were able to describe the life of many of my ancestors. Much of this genealogy was based on just a name. The details needed further research before the tree started to take shape; before the families and my ancestry made sense. Recording each story and cross referencing it with other facts was difficult and time consuming. However, it is satisfying when I brought these tree facts together correctly and can confidently pass each ancestor on to my family for future generations to appreciate.
Genealogy starts with just a family name. However, it helps us to understand the trials and tribulations that our ancestry had to endure and why we live in the communities that we do today. Knowing about our ancestors, their trees, their history and their stories, where we came from, provides a valuable insight into our families and our heritage. Each ancestor had a story to tell and our research makes that available for future generations to enjoy and cherish.
