Free Genealogical Sites Are Readily Accessible to All

In the past, there were only a few free genealogical sites that the average person could access. However, with proliferation of the internet, people anywhere can gain access to millions of potential ancestors through a tremendous number of genealogy websites and discussion forums anytime of the day or night. Any one website has resources that were once only available to professional genealogists but are now available to the amateur genealogist.

With the simple click of a mouse the amateur genealogist can access a free genealogical site that has millions of families recorded and referenced for you to research. These genealogy websites will provide tools, tutorials, and even another site to help you carry out your research. Each website will have their own unique information that might include: family trees that have been submitted by other budding genealogists; historical census records from a variety of countries; lists of passengers that took ships to the new world; birth, marriage and death records from local and federal governments; land title documents; gravesite records from cemeteries around the world; and much more than can be covered in this short article.

Once the amateur genealogist has started to use some of these free websites they may recognize the benefits of subscribing to some of the better genealogy sites. Two excellent sites are: Ancestry.com which has one of the largest databases available; and OneGreatFamily.com. allows you to take advantage of other family members research to uncover your ancestors. As well, you will find that both these sites provide genealogical user groups and forums that you can participate in to help you develop your research skills. You may even find a website that demonstrates that the support of professional genealogists might help you find that long lost ancestor that connects you to a famous historical event. Whatever you uncover will help you identify and display your family's heritage for generations to come.
