Family Tree - Discover the Fun and Challenge

Have you ever tried to find out about an ancestor in your family tree?

Maybe it was an ancestor, your great aunt, on your father's side, that moved to another country 100 years ago. Maybe, it was a question posed by your son – Where was grampa born? Or, what country did our family immigrate from?

Each of these questions in itself is very simple. Yet, when you start to search for your ancestor - who knows what you will discover about your ancestry. Genealogy (sometimes misspelled geneology) is the technical name for family tree research. Searching for your family's roots, your ancestry, is a fun hobby that some families have been involved in for thousands of years. With the evolution of the computer and the world wide web, ordinary people have been able to search for their ancestors using genealogy software. They have had access to more information about their ancestors and their roots and have been able to contact long lost relatives that only a few decades ago would have taken a lifetime to track down.

The internet makes the search for family trees available to almost anyone with a computer and a desire to find out their family roots and their ancestry. You don't even need a computer since many libraries make them available to anyone. Many of the genealogy programs are available right off the web. You don't even have to buy a program to get started looking for your ancestors and their trees.

However, once you start, you'll find that a computer and genealogy program will be invaluable. Storing and searching for roots information for your trees – information on all your ancestors' names, birth dates, places of birth, dates that they died and where they were buried are all much easier using a quality tree program.

Performing a search for that particular ancestor and his birth date will be much easier using a trees program when compared to searching though endless file folders and scrapbooks. These genealogy programs make printing out the ancestry charts and reports about your ancestors much easier too and you can even share them with relatives and friends over the internet using e-mail tools.
